Elementary
OUR CLASSROOMS:
In our elementary classrooms we serve students from Pre-K 3- 5th grade. Our classrooms emphasize self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. Our Primary (pre-k through kindergarten) classrooms and our 1st and 2nd grade classrooms offer a multiage opportunity. Our classrooms are designed to promote independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. Our educators are Montessori trained or within the process of becoming certified Montessori teachers.

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
Our classrooms align with the WISD curriculum while also implementing Montessori materials which provide concrete learning tools to support abstract concepts (golden beads for math, movable alphabet for literacy). Within the Montessori classroom, students work at their own level and speed within a structured framework. Students have a daily work cycle which includes extended, uninterrupted blocks of work time to foster deep concentration and develop a strong learning foundation.

COMMUNITY & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT:
Our educators intentionally teach respectful behavior, conflict resolution, and empathy. Our older students mentor younger peers; teamwork is encouraged. We highly encourage family involvement through volunteering, events, and Montessori education nights.

ASSESSMENT & PROGRESS:
Our educators track student progress through daily observations and work samples. Student work is compiled for periodic review and shared during family-teacher meetings. We do participate in state testing in STAAR assessments in grades 3-5, per state education mandates.
TRANSITION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Families who choose to continue their student's education at Lake Air through Middle school, we continue the Montessori Philosophy throughout our middle school classrooms. Our elementary classrooms build a strong foundation of independence, problem-solving, and collaboration- skills that translate will to traditional or Montessori secondary settings.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT:
Our classrooms are divided into practical life, sensorial, math, language, and cultural subjects. The furniture promotes independence and respect for the learning space. Students are able to choose their work but within the boundaries set by the teacher.
