Middle School

OUR CLASSROOMS:

In our middle school classrooms we serve students from 6th-8th grade. Our classrooms emphasize the Montessori Philosophy by focusing on purposeful work, community engagement, and meaningful contribution. Subjects are taught in an interdisciplinary manner, connecting concepts across science, humanities, and math. Within each classroom there is support for students to grow emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually.

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

Our classrooms align with the WISD curriculum while also integrating Montessori by emphasizing big-picture thinking, inquiry-based learning, and real world problem solving. Our middle school offers Pre-Advanced classes in English, Math (Pre-Algebra and Algebra) and AVID. Students often have micro-economy projects such as running a store, garden, school, etc. and have service learning opportunities.

SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING:

Our educators intentionally incorporate daily community meetings that foster belonging, self-awareness, and conflict resolution. In our middle school classrooms there is a continued emphasis on respect, communication, and empathy. Students have a variety of opportunities for self-expression through projects, journals, and student-led conferences.

ASSESSMENT & PROGRESS:

Our educators track student progress through observations, rubrics,  and student work.  Student reflect on their growth and present progress families. We do participate in state testing in STAAR assessments in middle school, per state education mandates.

TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL:

Montessori middle schoolers are typically self-motivated, organized, and adaptable- skills that aid in high school success.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:

Our classrooms are organized into work areas with access to research materials, technology, and hands-on resources. Students frequently engage in group work that builds leadership, responsibility, and accountability. Learners plan their work, manage deadlines, and reflect on their progress with teacher guidance.
